Rain
rarely falls on the dunes of the Namib. The sun and cloudless sky push
day temperatures up to 50°C. Even that tiny amount of rain,
together with the humidity of the morning fog created by the Benguela
current in front of the Namibian coast drifting inland, is
sufficient for the survivalists of the desert. Acacia trees and
grasses form the nutrition base for insects, birds and mammals
like the majestic Oryx antelope. |
